KOBFC 2027 Division 1 Trials and Pathway for Progression

5 min read

KOBFC is building towards 2027 with a clear aim: give committed players a professional, well-coached environment where they can develop, compete, and keep progressing.

After a successful 2025 season, with three teams competing in the NWSF competition and all three playing in Division 1, the club is preparing for the next step. The plan for 2027 is bigger, more structured, and focused on creating a strong pathway for players across mixed and girls football.

In 2027, KOBFC plans to field six mixed Division 1 teams and two girls Division 1 teams. Trials will be held towards the end of October, selections will be finalised by the end of October, and teams will begin training in November as preparation for the 2027 season begins.

A bigger Division 1 program for 2027

The 2027 program will build on the success KOBFC has already achieved in Division 1 football. Moving from three Division 1 teams in 2025 to a planned eight Division 1 teams in 2027 shows the club’s ambition, but it also shows the level of planning needed.

The aim is not simply to create more teams. The aim is to create the right environment for players who want to train, compete, and improve.

KOBFC’s 2027 Division 1 structure will include:

  • Six mixed Division 1 teams

  • Two girls Division 1 teams

  • Professional trial processes

  • Qualified coaches with a minimum C-registration

  • Two training sessions per week for Division 1 teams

  • Coaches attending games with their teams

  • A clear pathway between community football, Division 1, and higher levels

This structure gives players and families a clearer picture of what is expected. Division 1 football asks for commitment. Players need to be ready to train regularly, listen, learn, and compete each week. In return, the club will provide a organised and professional football environment.

Trials will set the standard early

Trials for the 2027 Division 1 teams will take place towards the end of October. Selections will then be completed by the end of October, giving players and families clarity before training starts in November.

That timing matters. It gives the selected teams valuable preparation time before the 2027 season. It also allows coaches to begin shaping squads early, building habits, and helping players understand the standards expected at Division 1 level.

The trial process will focus on more than just current ability. Coaches will also look for coachability, effort, decision-making, game awareness, and attitude. A player who listens, responds, and works hard can grow quickly in the right environment.

A strong trial process helps the club place players where they can develop best. For some, that will mean Division 1. For others, it may mean continuing in CFA competitions and building towards future opportunities.

Professional coaching will support player development

KOBFC will run its Division 1 teams with a professional approach. Coaches will hold a minimum C-registration, giving players access to structured sessions, clear feedback, and consistent expectations.

Division 1 teams will train twice a week, with each session running for 90 minutes. The team coach will also be present at games, which is an important part of player development.

Training and match day need to connect. When the same coach works with players during the week and then guides them on game day, players receive clearer messages. A coach can teach a concept at training, look for it during the match, and then return to it the following week.

This approach helps players improve in key areas such as:

  • First touch and ball control

  • Passing under pressure

  • Positioning and movement

  • Team shape

  • Decision-making

  • Defensive habits

  • Confidence in game situations

There will be player fees for coaching, as well as the standard FNSW and Play Football fees that every registered player pays. This reflects the increased level of coaching, time, and support required to run Division 1 teams properly.

A pathway for every player at KOBFC

The KOBFC 2027 Division 1 Trials and Pathway to Progression is about more than selecting top teams. It is about giving every player at the club a suitable place to play and a clear way forward.

Not every player wants the same football experience. Some want to play socially, enjoy the game, and develop at their own pace. Others want to test themselves against stronger players and push towards higher levels.

KOBFC’s structure is designed to support both.

The club will retain ungraded mixed and girls teams in the CFA competitions, giving players a community football option that still provides team spirit, learning, and match experience. At the same time, higher-level grades will compete in the NWSF competition, giving ambitious players the chance to play at Division 1 level.

This matters because development is not one straight line. Players grow at different times. Some are ready for Division 1 early. Others need another season of confidence, strength, or game understanding before stepping up. A strong club pathway gives players time and space to progress.

Preparing players for JDL and NPL opportunities

For players who continue to develop, KOBFC hopes the pathway can lead towards JDL and NPL opportunities. These programs are highly competitive, and players who reach that level need strong technical skills, good habits, resilience, and a clear understanding of the game.

KOBFC’s role is to help prepare players for those next steps. By training regularly, playing competitive matches, receiving coaching, and learning what higher standards look like, players can build the foundation they need.

A strong Division 1 program can make players more visible and better prepared. It can also help them understand what is required before they move into a JDL or NPL environment.

The club’s goal is simple: players who join KOBFC should have the chance to play at the level that suits them now, while also having the support to progress if they want to go further.

What players and families can expect

The 2027 program will ask for commitment from everyone involved. Players will need to attend training, arrive ready to work, support their teammates, and respect their coaches. Families will need to understand the time commitment that comes with Division 1 football.

In return, KOBFC aims to provide structure, consistency, and a genuine football pathway.

KOBFC is taking a planned and professional approach to 2027. The club is building from a strong 2025 foundation, expanding its Division 1 presence, and keeping a place for players at different stages of their football journey.

For players who want to compete, improve, and see how far the game can take them, the 2027 trials will be an important first step. For the club, they mark the start of a bigger pathway, from CFA football through to NWSF Division 1, and for some players, towards JDL and NPL opportunities.
